Over nine inches of aperture gathers roughly 1,130 times the light of your eye. The C9.25 has a long-standing reputation among planetary observers for delivering unusually crisp views for a Schmidt-Cassegrain, thanks to its longer primary mirror focal length and smaller relative obstruction.

Very long, which naturally favours planets, the Moon, double stars, globular clusters and small galaxies. Wide nebulae need a focal reducer or a second telescope; even a 40 mm eyepiece gives only about 59x here.

Focal ratio

Slow optics mean high magnification comes easily and eyepieces perform well, but the field is narrow and deep-sky imaging requires long exposures and excellent guiding. A 0.63x reducer is the standard remedy.

Optical design

Schmidt-Cassegrain

A folded light path packs 2350 mm of focal length into a tube about 60 cm long, which is the reason this much aperture stays portable. The closed tube keeps dust off the mirror but slows cooling, and the central obstruction softens contrast slightly compared with a refractor.

About 21 lb of compact tube. It is a comfortable one-person lift onto a mount, which is remarkable for this aperture and the main practical advantage of the design.

Cooldown

60 to 90 minutes

The sealed tube and thick corrector plate hold heat, and warm air inside the tube blurs fine planetary detail. Put it outside an hour before you intend to observe seriously, or fit a cooling fan.
