For imaging, where an error of a few arc-seconds ruins a frame, the practical limit is closer to 8 kg once camera, guide scope and cables are counted. An 8 inch SCT or a 100 mm refractor is a comfortable fit; a 9.25 inch SCT is pushing it.

The head alone is a comfortable one-hand carry, but a German equatorial needs counterweights to balance the telescope, so the real load-out is the head, the bar, two weights and a tripod. Expect three or four trips to the car rather than one.

Drive type

Worm gear, GoTo, autoguider port

A traditional worm drive is proven and cheap to build, but it has periodic error that repeats with every worm rotation. Autoguiding removes most of it, which is why the guide port matters more than the raw tracking figure on a mount at this price.
