Terms of Service

Last updated July 10, 2026·Independent — never sponsored

These terms cover your use of Skynocular — our telescope catalog, night-sky simulator, editorial guides, and the marketplace we plan to open, where people will be able to buy and sell gear. We've kept them as plain as terms can reasonably be. Using the site means you agree to them.

This is a fair-use summary, not a loophole hunt. If something here seems unclear or unreasonable, email us at hello@skynocular.com and we'll explain or fix it.

Accepting these terms

By using Skynocular, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. If you're using Skynocular on behalf of an organization, you're agreeing on its behalf.

What Skynocular is

Skynocular is an independent astronomy resource. We publish research, buying guides, telescope data, and a simulator to help you understand gear and decide what to buy. We are also building a marketplace where users will be able to list equipment for sale and buy from one another. It is not open yet.

Our editorial content is information and opinion, offered in good faith to help you choose well. It is not professional, financial, or safety advice, and we can't guarantee that every spec or price is perfectly accurate or current. Always double-check details that matter to you before you buy.

Your account

Some features require an account. When you create one, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials secure. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.

Tell us promptly at hello@skynocular.com if you think someone else has gained access to your account.

The marketplace

The marketplace is not open yet. Nothing on Skynocular is currently listed for sale by another user. The terms in this section set out how it will work, and they take effect for you if and when it opens and you choose to use it.

The marketplace will connect buyers and sellers. Skynocular provides the venue — we are not the buyer or the seller, and we aren't a party to the transactions that happen between users.

If you sell on Skynocular, you agree that:

  • you have the right to sell what you list;
  • your listings — descriptions, photos, condition, and price — are honest and accurate;
  • you'll complete sales in good faith and follow applicable laws.

If you buy on Skynocular, you understand that:

  • listings are created by other users, and we don't independently verify every item;
  • you're responsible for reviewing a listing and asking questions before you commit.

Payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do our best to keep the marketplace safe, but we can't guarantee the conduct of every user or the quality of every item. Treat other people the way you'd want to be treated in a deal.

Acceptable use

Please don't use Skynocular to:

  • break the law or infringe someone else's rights;
  • post false, misleading, fraudulent, or harmful content — including fake listings or scams;
  • harass, threaten, or abuse others, or post hateful or illegal material;
  • scrape, hack, overload, or interfere with the site or its security;
  • impersonate anyone or misrepresent your affiliation.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms or put the community at risk.

Content and intellectual property

Skynocular's guides, editorial writing, the Polaris Score, the simulator, our design, and our branding belong to us (or our licensors). You're welcome to read, link to, and share our pages, but please don't copy or republish our content wholesale without permission.

Content you post — like listings and messages — remains yours. By posting it, you give us permission to host and display it as needed to operate the site.

Skynocular contains affiliate links and links to third-party retailers and sites. We may earn a commission on qualifying purchases, and this never influences our rankings or recommendations — see our Affiliate Disclosure and Editorial Policy. We aren't responsible for the content, prices, availability, or practices of sites we link to; your dealings with them are between you and them.

Disclaimers

Skynocular is provided "as is" and "as available." We work hard to keep our information accurate and the site running, but we don't warrant that content is error-free, that specs and prices are current, or that the site will always be available or uninterrupted. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties like merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Skynocular and its team won't be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or the marketplace — including decisions you make based on our content, or disputes with other users. Some places don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms as Skynocular evolves. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above; significant changes will get a clearer heads-up where we can. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Skynocular operates, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
