This page explains how Skynocular uses cookies and similar technologies. It expands on the short summary in our Privacy Policy. As with everything else here, we try to keep it plain and honest: we use cookies to run the site and to understand how it's used — not to sell your data or serve you ads.
You can browse most of Skynocular — the catalog, guides, and simulator — without an account, and you can opt out of analytics at any time (see Your choices).
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They let a site remember things between pages and visits — like whether you're signed in. We also use closely related browser storage (such as local storage) for the same purposes; where we say "cookies" below, we mean these technologies together.
How we use cookies
We use cookies in four ways:
- Essential — login sessions. These keep you signed in as you move around the site and keep your account secure. The site can't work properly without them, so they can't be turned off from within Skynocular.
- Preferences. These remember choices you've made — for example, settings in the simulator — so the site behaves the way you left it.
- Analytics. These help us understand, in aggregate, which pages and features get used, so we can improve them. See Analytics.
- Performance and security. These help us keep the site fast and protect it from abuse.
Analytics
We use PostHog for privacy-conscious product analytics. It helps us see how the site is used across everyone — not to track you as an individual. We don't use analytics to build advertising profiles, and we don't sell what it collects.
We honor your browser's Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals: if your browser sends one, we automatically turn off analytics capture for you — you don't have to do anything.
Some parts of the site also use Vercel's cookieless analytics, which measures traffic and performance without identifying you.
Your choices
You have a few ways to control cookies:
- Opt out of analytics. Use the "Opt out of analytics" button in our cookie notice. Your choice is remembered on this device; essential login cookies still work so you can stay signed in.
- Send a privacy signal. Turn on Global Privacy Control or Do-Not-Track in your browser and we'll respect it automatically.
- Manage cookies in your browser. Every major browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies in its settings. If you block essential cookies, some features — like staying signed in — may stop working.
Changes to this policy
If our use of cookies changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll try to give you a clearer heads-up.
