Skynocular is an independent astronomy resource. We bring together a telescope catalog, a night-sky simulator, editorial buying guides, and live retailer pricing — so you can research gear, see what it'll actually show you, and buy with confidence, all in one place.
We're not a manufacturer and we're not a big-box store. We're here to be the trustworthy starting point for anyone trying to figure out astronomy gear.
Why Skynocular exists
Buying a telescope is more confusing than it should be. Spec sheets don't tell you what you'll see. Advice is scattered across forums and old threads. And plenty of "best telescope" lists are really just affiliate links wearing a lab coat.
We built Skynocular so you can do your research in one place and actually trust it — understand the trade-offs, preview the view through the eyepiece, compare honestly scored options, and land on the right choice for you, not the one with the biggest commission.
How we work
Our approach comes down to a few ideas:
- Knowledge first. You should be able to learn what you need here — from beginner guides to the "why does this exist" questions — instead of stitching it together from ten other sites.
- Show, don't just tell. Our simulator lets you pair any telescope with any eyepiece and see the real field of view on a real target, before you spend a cent.
- Editorially curated, honestly scored. A human decides what's worth recommending, and the Polaris Score lets you compare very different gear on a level field.
- Independent by design. How we make money is walled off from what we recommend.
How we're funded
Skynocular is reader-funded. When you buy through some of our retailer links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — and that revenue never changes our rankings, scores, or recommendations.
